9 essential items to have in your bathroom caddy for day-to-day hair care…

At Fusion Hair and Beauty we find the importance of maintaining the use of hair products as consistently as possible. As your hair takes in the ingredients of a brand it begins to adapt to its intended benefits on the hair. At Fusion two of our most used brands with effective results are Keracare and ORS.

The Keracare brand has been around since the 1980s and has been used worldwide on natural coily and curly hair textures. The undeniable benefits of the keracare brand are that it moisturises the hair, detangles and helps to reduce breakage and damage as well as refreshing and rejuvenating the scalp.

As for the ORS brand this brand has been around since 1998 and has established a well-known credible brand for itself. Supplying those with Afro-Caribbean hair as well as coily and curly textures with a brand that caters to the needs of their scalp and hair, tackling specifically dry and damaged hair.

At Fusion Hair and Beauty we have been using these two main brands since launching the business back in 2016 and we have witnessed first hand alongside our clients the progressive improvements in the overall health of their hair which has been both visible and tangible.

As common practice across the board with the majority of our clients that visit Fusion we have a workable and effective routine using these products. These consist of the following…

·       Keracare Detangling Mist - Detangle

·       Keracare Leave-In Conditioner – Moisturise

·       ORS Olive Oil Heat Protector Spray - Protect

·       Keracare Edge Tamer - Style

As well as utilising these hair products at Fusion we also have our useful hair tools at the ready for styling, the following hair tools we believe are a must have.

·       Pin tail comb

·       Denman brush

·       Butterfly clips

·       Wide tooth comb

·       Durag/Bonnet

Having the right tools allows for a smooth process when doing your hair. Sectioning the hair with butterfly clips which won’t harm your hair are an easy way to work through different sections of the hair making it manageable and less stressful on you and your hair strands. Knowing which hair comb/brush to use is easy to know depending on what your hair needs at the time.

·       Wide tooth comb – use after washing your hair to detangle well the hair.

·       Denman brush – use to give a smooth finish to a tied back style. This can also be used to detangle the ends of your hair and then work your way up the hair strand if your hair is well conditioned. DO NOT use a Denman brush on dry hair, always apply product on the hair (unless wet) to avoid the hair getting stuck between the brush.

·       Pin tail comb – use to section the hair as well as getting that perfect lined parting. This comb can also be used to slick your edges with a little use of edge tamer.

·       Durag/BonnetProtect your hair! If you’re having a duvet day or working from home keep your hair wrapped. This will keep your hair protected from the dry atmosphere that can be caused by simply having your heating on. Nighttime – absolute MUST! Wear your bonnet/durag to keep your hair from tangling, stay neat and avoid getting dry from moving around.

These hair tools form the basis of prepping clients at Fusion and we believe that with these hair tools and products in your bathroom caddy you will be set to start your daily hair routine depending on the style you are rockin’ at the time.

As with all hair products it is important to take notice of how your hair takes and reacts to what is being applied to it. Depending on the texture you have you may need to use more or less of one of the suggested hair products and this is O.K. Our professional advice is to stick to the product if it works and keep it simple. Overusing hair products and giving your hair a cocktail of products can be counterproductive and cause the pores on your scalp to become blocked which will result in an unhealthy irritated scalp, and this will not allow healthy hair to grow.

Please take into account that this information is based on our professional opinion having worked with these products on afro Caribbean hair and curly/coily textures. It is important to consider any allergies or scalp conditions you may have before using any products on your hair. What works for some even with the same hair texture may not work for you. Personal research into the products you are considering is advised and any further consultations can be requested by us directly at Fusion Hair and Beauty.
